The situation revolving around this event is relatively unclear. FBI director Christopher Wray confirmed that the bombs were real.
It is not really clear how they came to decide that Cesar Sayoc was a suspect or guilty. This event demonstrates that it is too easy for people to send dangerous materials in the mail.
How is it that we have such an extensive security system in place at airports albeit not without its own problems and no system for mail. Recently suspicious packages were sent to the Pentagon that were found to have ricin in them. Several years ago the infamous Unabomber isolated himself off in a wilderness cabin and mailed several handmade bombs killing three people and injuring 23. More steps should be taken to ensure that people aren’t able to mail poisons or explosives. That could involve having electronic scanners or some other form of detection used before packages are sent.
